Kansas City-based Burns & McDonnell has promoted Jamey Bertram to general manager of its Americas North Region.
Bertram has been with the company for more than 25 years. Most recently, he was promoted to general manager of the company’s Transmission & Distribution Group. In that role, he led more than 4,000 engineering, construction and technical professionals, along with hundreds of employee-owners across the firm, according to a release.
Throughout his career at the construction firm, Bertram has held several key leadership roles since joining the company in 2001.
“As I step into this role, I’m energized by the opportunity ahead. Our clients are navigating some of the most consequential energy and infrastructure challenges of our time, and I believe our greatest impact will come from bringing the best of Burns & McDonnell together to build what’s next,” Bertram said in a LinkedIn post.
Bertram succeeds Executive Vice President Jerry Fan, who will retire in January 2027 after nearly two decades with the firm. Bertram’s previous role as general manager of T&D Group will go to vice president Jake Merriman.
“Jamey and Jake bring deep experience and strategic vision to build on our leadership in the energy industry, drive continued growth and deliver integrated solutions to our clients’ most complex infrastructure challenges,” Leslie Duke, chair and CEO of Burns & McDonnell, said in the release.
Fan first joined the firm in 2007. He had led several large energy projects in the Northeast region. In his time at the firm’s firm’s Northeast Region, he oversaw more than $10 billion in capital improvement projects throughout the northeastern U.S. and Canada. He was promoted to lead the company’s offices across the Northeast in 2020, was then appointed leader of the Americas North region in 2024 and was promoted to executive vice president in 2025.
Merriman joined Burns & McDonnell in 2011 in the T&D Group and has held several leadership positions as well. He will bring more than 25 years of engineering experience to his next leadership role at the T&D Group. He was promoted to general manager of the Austin office and regional environmental services in 2021 — where he led a multidisciplinary team and helped grow the staff by 170% — and was then elevated to vice president of the firm in 2025.
The company has announced a portfolio of new leadership promotions recently. Last month, Burns & McDonnell named Rashmi Menon its first chief people officer, where she will lead the firm’s community impact, events & programs, human resources, corporate communications and people change management teams. As part of Menon’s latest promotion, the firm also announced four newly promoted officers across the Kansas City and Fort Worth offices.
In July, Burns & McDonnell was named the owner’s representative for the Kansas City Chiefs’ new practice facility and headquarters project in Olathe, Kansas.
Founded in 1898, Burns & McDonnell is a fully employee-owned construction firm. To date, the firm operates more than 75 offices worldwide. Burns & McDonnell ranked No. 1 in Ingram’s 2026 Edition of The Power Book for Top Area Engineering Firms. The firm also ranked No. 2 in Top Area General Contractors and No. 3 in Top Area Architectural Firms.
