Blue KC Considers Headquarters Move

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas City might move its headquarters from its current location, at 2301 Main St. Renovation of the existing facility, which was built in 1979, is also a possibility, as the building is “not adequately serving the needs of the company and its employees,” according to a company press release.

“We need a workplace that will evolve with us as we drive change to advance affordable access to healthcare and improve the health of our members,” said Erin Stucky, Blue KC’s president and chief executive officer.

Whatever happens, the insurer plans to stay in Kansas City, Mo. All location options appear to be on the table, including renovation, a new existing space or a ground-up development. Colliers International is assisting Blue KC and its 1,175 employees with its space needs, which could be about 200,000 square feet, based on average space per employee. Colliers has such space listed on its local website, 805 Pennsylvania, but it was recently leased up by the USDA.
