A new professional development group for Women in Healthcare is spawning a new chapter in the Heartland and will help to educate and mentor women in the healthcare industry.
The Heartland chapter president Erin Nybo said the idea of starting a new chapter close to the Kansas City area started about a year ago.
“There were several folks from both Kansas City and St Louis that wanted to see this new chapter form, and that is where we decided to team up and start off,” Nybo said.
The chapter began in its “incubation” phase, gaining more than 30 members in three weeks. Now, more than 70 are members of the chapter and is currently going through the process of incorporation with the standing chapters across the nation.
The organization acts to provide professional development to any women healthcare provider but also in the healthcare sphere including women in architecture, finance and legal services.
Challenges for women in the healthcare industry are also a subject Nybo wishes to work toward finding better ways for how the workplace can be beneficial for all.
“I don’t think anyone is ever maliciously being hurtful but I think at this time in society’s life we have to be intentional,” she said. “That is what’s missing, people being more intentional about understanding what they are or are not doing with their interaction with women every day.”
