Violence Persists in KC as Minneapolis Riots

Kansas City’s homicide rate is up year over year, and the Kansas City Police Department is trying to alleviate problems in the face of the riots in Minneapolis.

It said via Twitter that: “We are reiterating to our officers our commitment to reasonable use of force to further our mission to protect and serve with professionalism, honor and integrity.”

This is happening while major riots are taking place due to the death of George Floyd, an African American man who was in police custody. Last night there were fires in Minneapolis, and a police precinct was breached and damaged. Other demonstrations have taken place in major cities across the country.

In the Kansas City area there have been 97 homicides so far this year, while the total in 2019 was 225, says KSHB.
