Vertical Cold Storage announced it has acquired a new refrigerated warehouse, expanding its footprint in Alabama.

Vertical Cold Storage acquired the refrigerated warehouse located in Dothan, AL, from Dothan Warehouse. The acquisition represents Vertical Cold Storage’s 13th facility and its second location in Dothan, according to the release.

The refrigerated facility maintains temperatures between 34° and 50°F. Located in the heart of the U.S. peanut production region, the facility has a strong track record of supporting regional peanut shelling operations.

“Our nearby freezer facility primarily supports local poultry producers, where we offer blast freezing, freezer storage, and export services,” Jim Henderson, Chief Commercial Officer of Vertical Cold Storage, said in the release. “Acquiring the refrigerated warehouse shows our commitment to support additional food producers in the region.”

Vertical Cold Storage acquired its first Dothan freezer warehouse from Dothan Warehouse in August 2024. At the time, the company converted the facility to its standard warehouse management system and integrated it into the company’s national network.

“As we bring this facility into our network, we will deploy our warehouse management technology, safety, and food quality programs to ensure customers experience the same high standards they see at every Vertical Cold location,” Henderson said in the release.

Vertical Cold Storage specializes in temperature-controlled distribution centers with operations in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Missouri, Nebraska, North Carolina and Texas, according to the company’s website. Vertical Cold Storage is sponsored by Kansas City-based Platform Ventures, an entrepreneurial private investment firm that manages over $3.6 billion of assets.
