The University of Kansas Hospital has been named one of the best hospitals in the world in Newsweek’s 2024 “World’s Best Hospital” list, featuring only 43 hospitals in the U.S.

Newsweek partnered with Statista and analyzed 2,400 hospitals across 30 countries for the list. Rankings were calculated based on online surveys of more than 85,000 experts and publicly available data from post-hospitalization patient surveys. Data based on the quality of care for specific treatments, hygiene measures and patient safety as well as data on the number of patients per doctor and nurse were also considered for the final rankings.

Of the 250 hospitals ranked across the globe, 43 from the U.S. made the list.

The University of Kansas Hospital was the only hospital from the Kansas City metro that made the list, placing in the No. 228 spot and was the only hospital based in Kansas to be recognized.

While not located in the Kansas City area, Saint Louis-based Barnes-Jewish Hospital of BJC Healthcare also made the list. The hospital ranked No. 146 and was the only Missouri hospital on the list.

The top 10 hospitals in the world ranked four hospitals from the U.S.
