Jackson County Legislature is considering whether to authorize $22 million to construct a new building for University Health.
County legislators voted 8-1 on Monday that would appropriate $22 million from the undesignated fund balance of the General Fund for the use of constructing a new UMKC Health Sciences District building used by University Health employees.
The building would house non-clinical services and employees as well as develop employment opportunities for UMKC students partaking in future employment in the medical field.
UMKC Health Sciences District released renderings for the $120 million UMKC Healthcare Delivery and Innovation Building, which is set to start construction sometime in 2024.
While the resolution was approved, whether or not the county will provide the total $22 million remains unclear.
