Unemployment Up Slightly in September

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, America’s economy added 156,000 nonfarm jobs in September while the unemployment rate, up to 5 percent from 4.9 percent in August, hovered in the same range it has been in for the past few months.

The report cited the number of unemployed persons at 7.9 million, a measurement that has “shown little movement, on net, since August of last year.” The report said the same about the unemployment percentage.

Job growth so far this year, the report said, “has averaged 178,000 per month, compared with an average of 229,000 per month in 2015.”
