UM System Receives Largest Core Funding In History

The University of Missouri System has received its largest core funding in the amount of $488 million and will aid in the development and projects across the four universities within the system.

The University of Missouri System’s four campuses will receive approximately $488 million in core funding, making it the largest funding sum for the system to date.

Funding will be supported by the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) which is a $25 million increase compared to 2022.

Disbursement of the funding is as follows; $24 million will go toward the university’s central land-grant mission, $101 million toward funds for students pursuing their first doctorates in select degrees and $80 million to go toward research and development operations, according to the university. 

The four universities in the system will gain support for certain protects.

The University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) received $20 million for the construction of a clinical and teaching facility adjacent to its Schools of Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Nursing and Health Sciences buildings.

Furthermore, the University of Missouri-St. Louis (UMSL) received $20 million for renovations of campus facilities as well as demolition of other facilities in an effort to reduce the campus footprint and focus critical operations on the north campus.

The University of Missouri (MU) acquired $52.3 million to support the university’s NextGen and MizzouForward, in an effort to increase economic growth, according to the university. Additionally, MU will receive $3.2 million for the MU Missouri Foundation Seed program. 

Missouri University of Science and Technology received $25 million for the construction related to Advancing Missouri’s STEM Education.

In addition to the core funding, the University of Missouri System could receive up to $789.5 million in the fiscal year 2024 when accounting for competitive grants and one-time funding.
