U.S. Uninsured Rate Declines

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported this week that 27.6 million people of all ages, or 8.4 percent of Americans, were uninsured in its most recent survey. That’s down from 30 million, or 9.2 percent, from 2021.

The agency’s 2022 update said that among adults between the ages of 18 and 64, nearly one in eight, or 12.2 percent, were uninsured, 22.0 percent had public coverage, and slightly more than two in three, 67.8 percent, had private health insurance coverage.

The uninsured rate for those 17 and under was just 4.2 percent; 43.7 percent had some form of public coverage, while 54.3 percent were covered through private policies.
