On Tuesday, U.S. Secretary of Transportation Elaine Chao announced the list of airports set to receive infrastructure and safety grants, two of which include Kansas City International Airport and Johnson County Executive Airport.

The Department of Transportation is making a big investment nationwide, an investment that will impact two local Kansas City area airports.

On Tuesday, U.S. Secretary of Transportation Elaine Chao revealed a list of airports in the U.S. that are to receive a combined total of around $1.2 billion in infrastructure and safety grants.

Kansas City International Airport (KCIA) and Johnson County Executive Airport are to receive $12.1 million of that total, KCIA to receive $7,907,978 for taxiway rehabilitation and Johnson County Executive to receive $4,230,688 to reconstruct a taxiway.

Funding arrives as part of the Airport Improvement Program (AIP), which funds airport infrastructure projects such as runways, taxiways, airport signage, airport lighting and airport markings.
