Kansas City-based TranSystems announced it has acquired NCM Engineering Corp., a transportation infrastructure engineering firm, to bolster its presence in the California market.

Founded in 2012, NCM specializes in infrastructure improvements including transportation planning, freeways, highways, roadways, general civil engineering, bridges and specialty structures. The firm’s portfolio of projects in California totals $2 billion in value, according to the company’s website.

NCM’s 40-person team will join the TranSystems national 1,800-person workforce, according to a release Thursday.

“NCM is a perfect complement to the work we do in California,” TranSystems CEO Tim Rock said in a release. “This combination expands our company’s capabilities and strengthens our position in a market with significant transportation opportunities. We are excited to welcome the talented team from NCM, which should propel what we can offer our California clients and beyond.”

Rock, who began serving as the company’s CEO in January, added the addition of NCM should propel TranSystems’ offerings to its California clients and beyond.

In December, TranSystems announced it acquired BCE Engineers, Inc., expanding its Washington footprint and added 75 employees to its workforce.
