Saint Luke’s, BJC Health System Merger Closes and Adjusts Leadership



BJC and Saint Luke's complete the transaction to combine as a single health system.

Saint Luke’s Health System and BJC Health System of St. Louis officially intergraded on Jan. 1, 2024, closing the deal that was announced in May, combining the companies’ revenue to nearly $15 billion.

Under the agreement, BJC will continue to operate as a single integrated healthcare organization that provides services to Missouri, Illinois and eastern Kansas. Saint Luke’s Health System will operate in its Western Region.

Saint Luke’s President Julie Quirin will now operate as the president of the BJC Western Region.

Quirin worked for more than 25 years with Saint Luke’s as senior vice president and chief operating officer of Saint Luke’s Health System, senior vice president of hospital operations, CEO of Saint Luke’s Hospital of Kansas City, senior vice president of the continuum of care services, and president and CEO of Saint Luke’s South Hospital.

In addition to Quirin’s new role, other Saint Luke’s leaders have been promoted as a result of the merger.

Chuck Robb was the former senior vice president and CFO at Saint Luke’s and is now the CFO of BJC Health System. Robb joined Saint Luke’s in 1991 where he served as CFO of Saint Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City.

Rebecca Sesler is now the chief marketing and communications Officer for BJC Health System. Sesler served 12 years with Saint Luke’s where she previously worked in marketing and public relations.

BJC HealthCare and Saint Luke’s now employ more than 44,000 healthcare workers. BJC is predicting an annual community impact of $1 billion for the area the health system serves. Saint Luke’s ranked No. 4 in Top Private Sector Companies in Ingram’s Top 100 Private Companies and reported a net of $9.14 in revenue for 2022.
