Research Shows Average Cost Of Childbirth In The Region



A report from the Health Care Cost Institute showed people with employer-sponsored health insurance spent an average of $24,000 in charges after childbirth.

In the United States, patients are paying an average of $3,500 out-of-pocket. Furthermore, 60 percent of those charges are accumulated through delivery. However, these out-of-pocket costs can vary from state and metro area.

For example, Missouri has an average out-of-pocket cost of $1,744, and Kansas shows a larger average cost of $1,987, according to HCCI. For reference, the highest state average cost is Nebraska costing $2,685 while the lowest is Michigan at $974.

In another report from HCCI, when looking at the Kansas City, MO-KS metro area, the average total cost of delivery is $9,560 while a c-section runs for about $12,066.
