Report: New Vaccine May Address All Variants

The Walter Reed Army Institute of Research will soon announce successful development of a vaccine that is effective against COVID-19 and all its variants, according to a report from DefenseOne.com. That protection, it said, extends even to the latest COVID variant, Omicron, as well as from previous SARS-origin viruses that have killed millions of people worldwide.

The report said that the Army lab received its first DNA sequencing of the COVID-19 virus in early 2020, and officials in the infectious diseases branch decided to focus on a multi-variant solution.

That led to Walter Reed’s Spike Ferritin Nanoparticle COVID-19 vaccine, or SpFN, which successfully completed animal trials earlier this year. The first phase of human trials ended this month, with results still under review before Phase 2 and Phase 3 trials can begin.
