Report: 20.2 Million Jobs Lost in April

Private-sector employment lost 20.2 million positions between April and May, according to the ADP National Employment Report, making it the biggest drop in its history.

“Job losses of this scale are unprecedented,” said Ahu Yildirmaz, co-head of the ADP Research Institute. “The total number of job losses for the month of April alone was more than double the total jobs lost during the Great Recession.”

Large business saw the biggest loss, at 8.9 million. It was followed by small businesses, which saw a six-million-worker decrease, and medium-sized firms lost just under 5.3 million.

Service-providing businesses saw a decline of 16 million, while goods producing was down by just over 4.2 million.
