Construction plans for a new MU Health Care Children's Hospital received approval from a UM System Board of Curators advisory committee. MU Health plans to invest $232 million toward building, but now must wait on a vote by the full board of curators for final approval.

Grand plans from MU Health Care for a new children’s hospitals have moved one step closer to fruition.

A proposal for a new seven-story MU Health Care Children’s Hospital received approval last week from a UM System Board of Curators advisory committee.

Now, final approval for construction plans rests on a vote from the full board of curators to take place Thursday, Nov. 19.

MU Health plans to invest $232 million toward construction of the hospital, which will be built at the corner of Hitt and Lake streets near University Hospital.

Plans for the proposed new building include 142 patient beds with 323,4000 square feet of space.

With the children’s hospital, MU Health hopes to deliver a children’s cancer center, intensive care unit and labor and delivery suites.

If soon given the green light to proceed with the building, plans show an anticipated completion in summer 2024.
