Peggy Schmitt, North KC Hospital CEO, Retiring

By Ian Ritter

Peggy Schmitt, president and chief executive officer of North Kansas City Hospital and Meritas Health, is retiring from her duties, which she has held since 2012, by the end of the year.

“The opportunities that I have had to serve and lead this incredible organization have been very meaningful to me,” Schmitt said in a press release. “One of my goals was to continue promoting a hospital-wide culture of respect and collaboration to ensure the best patient outcomes and the highest level of patient care.”

Since being under her leadership, NKCH has instituted an oncology partnership with the University of Kansas Center, in 2014, making trials from select cancer-treatment programs available to patients. The organization has also increased its access points in non-hospital settings through its Wellness Corners, which are in the Gladstone Community Center, North Kansas City YMCA and Zona Rosa shopping center.

Schmitt has a law degree from Yale University and earned her undergraduate in nursing from the University of Missouri. She plans to stay on in her role until NKCH’s board hires a replacement.
