Olathe Eyes 25-Year Transit Plan

Overland Park (current population: 181,260) has been the biggest Kansas-side city in the metro area since overtaking Kansas City, Kan., roughly a decade ago, but even that fast-growing community hasn’t kept pace with what’s happened with growth rates in neighboring Olathe since 1970.

Now, Olathe is setting its sights on strategies for the next 25 years with an update of its long-range Transportation Master Plan. The city is inviting the citizenry—and it could need a big meeting place, because the current population is 131,885—to attend a kick-off meeting for that planning process. What’s in it for residents? A transit plan that will affect where they live, work, and play, the city said in a news release, so it’s seeking input on its studies of roads, trails, and transit options.

The meeting is set for Tuesday, Oct. 28, from 6 to 8 p.m., in Rooms A&B of the Olathe Community Center. Those who can’t attend are invited to take a short survey at OlatheKS.org/TransportationMasterPlan.
