The Olathe City Council is scheduled to hold a public hearing on Tuesday, February 3, concerning the city’s proposed STAR bonds for the new Kansas City Chiefs headquarters facility.

As part of the Chiefs’ move to Kansas, a new $3 billion, state-of-the-art domed stadium would be built to facilitate the team’s transition to the state. Additionally, the new Chiefs headquarters and training facility are estimated to cost approximately $300 million and will be built in Olathe.

During Tuesday’s meeting, Olathe City Council members will vote on the use of 3 tax pledges that will be used to repay the STAR bonds, which include:

  • 1% of all of the City’s general sales and use tax.
  • 0.5% of all of the City’s share (currently 17.63%) of the Johnson County sales tax.
  • 7% of the City’s current 9% transient guest taxes in any hotel, motel, or tourist court.

The outlined pledges would exist for 30 years, according to City documents.

The official site of the practice and headquarters facility has not been announced or confirmed, but Olathe City documents show a potential site for the development would be at the northwest corner of S Ridgeview Rd & College Blvd.
