North Kansas City Hospital warns its patients of their personal information being leaked as a result of a data break last year.

Perry Johnson & Associates, Inc. (PJ&A) informed NKCH and its subsidiary Meritas Health Corporation of a possible break of data security involving an unauthorized person gaining access to PJ&A systems in July 2023.

PJ&A is an outside vendor used by NKCH for transcription services.

An investigation by PJ&A and third-party forensic specialists took place from March 27, 2023, to May 2, 2023, followed by the investigators determining the compromised data included patients’ demographic information (name, date of birth, gender, phone number and address.)

The breach did not affect NKCH’s or Meritas’ security systems and PJ&A no longer provides services to NKCH or Meritas, according to a release.

NKCH is mailing letters to potentially affected individuals for whom it has an address. NKCH is advising concerned patients to call 1-888-928-1264 available Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. CT.
