MU Health Care Opens 160-bed Children’s Hospital in Columbia, MO



University of Missouri Health Care opened a 160-bed children’s hospital and birthing center.

University of Missouri Health Care announced it opened a new 160-bed children’s hospital and birthing center.

The children’s hospital is connected to the University Hospital in Columbia, according to a release. The centralized location allows for specialists to collaborate and deliver coordinated, complex care.

“We brought together all of our highly specialized teams, top researchers and advanced resources together in one location to ensure our patients receive the best possible care close to home,” executive vice chancellor for health affairs and dean of the MU School of Medicine, Richard Barohn, MD said in the release.

Several departments have transitioned into the new children’s hospital which is expected to be operational by June 14.

“We are very proud of our international designation as a Baby Friendly hospital—and we have taken great care to design rooms and spaces that help keep mom and baby together as much as possible,” chair of obstetrics and gynecology at MU, Jean Goodman, MD said in the release.
