Missouri Nursing Board Invests in the Future



Several colleges and universities in Missouri will receive nearly $1 million in grants for expanding their nursing education programs. The grants are funded the Missouri Board of Nursing and in partnership with the state’s Department of Higher Education

The funds will be used to help nursing programs serve more students, with the goal of increasing the nurse population in Missouri, particularly in areas facing a shortage of medical professionals

In thanking the nursing board for its funding, Zora Mulligan, Missouri Commissioner of Higher Education, said “The grants will help higher education institutions prepare more well-trained nurses to meet Missouri’s growing health care needs.”

The individual grants, ranging from $57,000 to $150,000 will go toward new faculty positions, faculty recruiting and development, accelerated graduate programs, clinical training partnerships and expanded technology for nursing education programs

The grant-winning schools are: Mineral Area College in Park Hills, Missouri State University in Springfield, Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph, North Central Missouri College in Trenton, Ozarks Technical Community College in Springfield, University of Missouri –Sinclair Schools of Nursing in Columbia and University of Missouri in St. Louis.
