Missouri K-12 public schools to receive $123 million in funding

By Madison Parry

The bulk of funding from $281 million held back in state spending has been released and will go to K-12 and other educational purposes across Missouri. Around $123 million will be used on K-12 public schools, college scholarships and other government services.

Previously held-back funding due to COVID-19 concerns was released in Missouri on Monday, March 1.

The remainder of $438 million from the current state budget – around $281 million – was released on Monday, the majority of it to be put toward educational institutions and services across the state.

Around $123 million of released $280,783,940 FY21 general revenue will go to K-12 public schools, college scholarships and other government services.

Missouri Gov. Mike Parson initially cut $438 million from the state budget over COVID-19 concerns in an effort to reserve funding in the case the state saw less revenue this year.

Part of the funding released provides more than $1.5 million for the state’s academic college scholarship program, Bright Flight.
