Missouri House of Representatives District 19 candidate Phyllis Hardwick concedes election

Hardwick conceded the election Wednesday to long-time incumbent, Representative Ingrid Burnett, who won re-election with 40% of the vote over Hardwick’s 39% of the vote.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Today, Missouri House of Representatives District 19 Candidate Phyllis Hardwick conceded the election to Representative Ingrid Burnett. Hardwick ran a close race and in early reporting was leading with 40% of the vote. She eventually garnered 35% of the total vote in a three-way primary and won by 39% in Kansas City. Long-time incumbent Ingrid Burnett won re-election with 40% of the vote. Nicholas (Wick) Thomas had 25% of the vote.

“I spoke with Ingrid today to acknowledge her win in her bid for re-election. Although the votes were not in our favor, I am proud of the race I led and the hard work of my supporters,” Hardwick said. “We did the work of gaining the trust of the community. We put our dollars behind small businesses, union-run businesses as well as businesses led by people of color. We outpaced both opponents in fundraising and individual donations. We ran a highly competitive race that reflected our principles – diversity, equity, integrity and progressive values. We stood as champions for medicaid expansion, strong schools, a strong workforce and strong communities. My work in holding elected leaders accountable to the needs of our community doesn’t end with this election; it is only beginning.”
