Missouri August jobs report



Seasonally adjusted employment in Missouri last month showed a decrease reaching past 1,000, the unemployment rate increasing slightly from 6.9 percent in July to 7 percent in August.

While Missouri’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate has remained either below or equal to the national rate, the Missouri jobs report for August 2020 shows that employment decreased, causing the unemployment rate to increase from July.

Seasonally adjusted employment in Missouri decreased by 1,200 jobs in August, according to a report released Wednesday by the Missouri Economic Research and Information Center.

Missouri’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate increased slightly from July to August, bumping up by one-tenth of a percentage point to 7 percent in August from July’s 6.9 percent.

August 2020 estimates show the number of unemployed Missourians was 215,249, up by 3,825 from July’s revised 211,424, the report said.

Overall, labor market recovery remained essentially flat in August for Missouri, according to the report, showing that, for 66 consecutive months, Missouri has not surpassed the national rate for adjusted unemployment.

For the month of August, the national unemployment rate was 8.4 percent.
