Landmark Bancorp Announces Abby Wendel as New CEO

Manhattan, Ks.-based Landmark Bancorp, Inc. announced it has appointed Abigail “Abby” Wendel to president and chief executive officer of the company and its subsidiary, Landmark National Bank.

Wendel will begin her new role effective March 29 and will join the respective boards of directors of the company and bank, according to a release. Wendel succeeds the outgoing president and CEO, Michael Scheopner, who will serve in a non-executive role until his retirement at the end of the year.

“From small business loans to industrial product offerings and numerous solutions in between, we have listened and responded to our customers’ needs,” Scheopner said in the release. “I am extremely proud of what our team has achieved in partnership with our customers and look forward to Landmark’s continued growth and success under Abby’s leadership.”

Scheopner was named president in May 2013 and CEO in January 2014.

Most recently, Wendel served as president of consumer banking at UMB Bank. In that role, she oversaw more than 800 associates and was responsible for the retail, mortgage, and private banking functions and corresponding consumer banking initiatives. She served at UMB for more than 15 years.

Under UMB, Wendel also served as senior vice president and director of corporate strategy, government & investor relations and as executive vice president and chief strategy officer. Before UMB, Wendel spent 12 years at the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City.

Wendel will be based in the Kansas City metro with frequent visits to other Landmark locations across Kansas, according to the release.
