The Rock Island Bridge’s central truss was raised by 3 feet, 4 inches last week, bringing the future entertainment district that much closer to completion.
The $12 million project needed to meet the current 750-year standards as part of requirements made by the Army Corps of Engineers. The process took more than two hours to complete with the bridge moving 18 inches per hour.
This raising will be the second of three truss-raising operations to increase the height of the bridge, according to the developers Flying Truss LLC.
By raising the bridge, more room will be given for construction crews to operate while on the bridge itself.
Last month, the development team alongside regional leaders came together for the project’s groundbreaking celebration.
The Kansas City, Kansas entertainment district is still set to open in the summer 2024 and will feature event spaces, community areas, bars, kitchens, coffee shops, public seating, restrooms, live entertainment and more.
