The City of Kansas City, MO., Aviation Department reported passenger data for April 2023 on Wednesday and shows a sizable increase.

The total number of passengers for KCI in April was 905,881, an 18.8 percent increase when compared to April 2022 passengers who arrived and departed. Passenger boardings were also up 18.8 percent with a total of 450,758.

KCI proved it was more than ready for the Memorial Day weekends as well. With the addition of its new terminal —which opened in February— 20,231 departing passengers screened at the new single-terminal. The biggest Wednesday for KCI since pre-pandemic.

According to data from the KCI, 2018 and 2019 were the second and third busiest years in the airport’s history.

In other news, over the four-day Memorial Day weekend, the Transportation Security Administration screened nearly 9.8 million passengers at airports in the U.S., approximately 300,000 more than the same weekend in 2019, according to the data.
