KC area shows total nonfarm job loss of 46,500 in one year



A labor force report from the Missouri Economic Research Center shows nonfarm jobs in the Kansas City area remain down 46,500 from one year ago. Leisure and hospitality showed the most losses as the metro numbered 1.06 million nonfarm jobs in February, short of 1.11 million from last February.

The Kansas City metropolitan area is down more than 46,000 jobs in one year, according to a recent report from the Missouri Economic Research and Information Center.

Leisure and hospitality shed the most positions during that period, more than 20,000.

Statewide, there were 130,000 fewer jobs in February compared to the previous year.

The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate fell from 4.3 percent in January to 4.2 percent in February.

The February 2021 unemployment rate was 0.6% higher than in February 2020, the report noted.
