Kansas Unemployment Claims Up, Missouri Claims Dropping

A report from WalletHub shows recent unemployment claims have been increasing in Kansas, while, Missouri’s claims are dropping.

WalletHub’s report States Where Unemployment Claims Are Increasing the Most, published April 4, compared the 50 states and the District of Columbia based on changes in unemployment claims for several key benchmark weeks. The number of claims per 100,000 people in the labor force was also considered.

Additionally, new unemployment claims increased by 4.3 percent week-over-week on March 25, according to the report.

Kansas ranked No. 9 on the list of states with the biggest increases in unemployment claims, with 82 claims per 100,000 Kansans. For the week of March 25, Kansas experienced an approximate 32 percent increase from the previous week and 39 percent higher than the year before.

Missouri ranked No. 48 on the list with 96 claims per 1000,000 Missourians. For the week of March 25, Missouri had reported a 45 percent decrease in unemployment claims compared to the prior week and 4.5 percent lower from the year before.

WalletHub found states that had unemployment claims last week that were higher than in the previous week include: Maine, Washington, Florida, New York, Rhode Island, California, Hawaii, Minnesota, North Dakota, Massachusetts, Kentucky, New Jersey, Illinois, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, Ohio, Wisconsin, Kansas, Maryland and Iowa.
