Kelly touts Kansas business investment increase

A recent report from Gov. Laura Kelly says the state recorded  $3.5 billion in business investment in 2021. This figure tops the previous year’s investment of $2.5 billion by a wide margin, and makes 2021 the most successful economic development year in Kansas history, she said.

Kansas is wrapping up its most successful business year yet, reporting that in 2021, the state has invested $3.5 billion dollars for business statewide.

An announcement from Kansas Gov. Laura Kelly revealed this year’s investment is a healthy leap upwards from 2020’s total business investment of $2.5 billion.

Over the course of 2021, Kansas saw the completion of 312 economic development projects representing more than $3.69 billion in investments made by the private sector, according to a news release from the governor’s office. The same release notes that 12,000 jobs were created and retained in 2021.

“This announcement is more proof that, despite the challenges over the last two years, business is booming in Kansas,” Kelly said in the release. “We will continue building on this success by staying laser focused on the issues that Kansans elected us to take care of – like fully funding our public schools, strengthening our roads, bridges, and high-speed internet, and protecting access to health care.”
