Following a cyber security attack on the Kansas Supreme Court in October, state officials say the court system will be back online in phases.

The Kansas Supreme Court operated paper-only after the October 12 cyber attack, including 104 district courts. The attackers later threatened to post the documents on the dark web. The Kansas Supreme Court believes Office of Judicial Administration files, district court case records on appeal and other confidential files were a part of the cyber attack.

The state hopes to have all courts back on the system by the end of the year. However, the Johnson County file will remain offline until the Johnson County District Court joins the Kansas eCourt system in 2024, according to a Kansas Judicial Branch news release.

Over the next several weeks, the state plans to reinstate the eFiling system, Kansas Public Access Portal and Kansas online marriage license applications.
