Kansas City, Kan. noted among top U.S. cities where more young residents are buying homes

Census Bureau data found that around 65 percent of Americans own their home, about half of these made up by younger adults under 35 years old. A ranking by SmartAsset found Kansas City, Kan. is a popular spot for younger residents buying homes.

A national ranking by personal finance technology company SmartAsset on the top U.S. cities where more young residents are buying homes found Kansas City, Kan. to be among the top 50, landing at 48.

Using data collected by the U.S. Census Bureau, the study aimed to find where young residents are most likely to own their home and where young homeownership has increased – or decreased least – over the last few years.

Roughly 65 percent of Americans own their home, but that figure is nearly halved among Americans younger than 35 years-old, according to SmartAsset.

The study noted that some parts of the country may be easier for those in younger age groups to buy homes.

SmartAsset ranked 200 of the largest cities based on two metrics: the under-35 homeownership rate in 2019 and the 10-year change (2009-2019) in the under-35 homeownership rate.
