Kansas City Chiefs Select Manica Architecture to Design $3B KCK Stadium

The Kansas City Chiefs named Manica Architecture as the firm to design its new $3 billion stadium in Kansas City, Kansas, in 2031.

Kansas City-based Manica was named the lead design architect for the Chiefs’ new stadium. The new state-of-the-art stadium will feature an enclosed roof with translucent UV-resistant solar panels. The new stadium is also expected to seat approximately 70,000 fans and have more than 20,000 parking spots.

In January, the Chiefs announced two architectural design firms were finalists for the KCK stadium. The two finalists, Manica and Populous, were part of a six-month lead design competition.

“My entire team is committed to creating a stadium that honors the legacy, tradition, and unmatched energy of Arrowhead while boldly reimagining its future,” David Manica, president and owner of Manica Architecture, said in a release. “This stadium is being designed not just for today’s fans, but for the generations of Chiefs Kingdom to come – a place that reflects the passion, pride, and enduring strength of one of the greatest fan bases in all of sports.”

Manica has designed several stadium projects, including the New Nissan Stadium in Nashville, Tennessee, Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas and the new Oklahoma City arena.

In addition to the team’s selection of Manica, Kansas City-based HNTB was selected as the architect of record for the project.

The stadium’s size and shape will be designed to maximize crowd noise, with a seating bowl reminiscent of Arrowhead Stadium. A drum deck will be installed for pregame and in-game ceremonies and a “Chiefs Ring of Honor”— a display of famous and influential Chiefs players throughout the franchise’s history will circle around the bowl.

A Lamar Hunt statue, a Chiefs Hall of Honor more than twice the size of its current space, and an expanded Chiefs Team Store approximately four times larger than the current store are also planned.

In June, the Chiefs unveiled an updated economic impact projection for their $4.5 billion stadium project in Kansas. The project includes the new $3 billion stadium in Wyandotte County, Kansas, a $300 million practice facility and headquarters in Olathe and $1.2 billion in private ancillary real estate developments surrounding both projects.
