The Kansas City Chiefs have unveiled an updated economic impact projection for their $4.5 billion stadium project in Kansas.
The project includes the new $3 billion stadium in Wyandotte County, Kansas, a $300 million practice facility and headquarters in Olathe and $1.2 billion in private ancillary real estate developments surrounding both projects.
In December, the Kansas City Chiefs and Kansas Governor Laura Kelly announced plans to move the football team to Kansas.
A report from Philadelphia-based Econsult Solutions, Inc., conducted in April 2026, shows the investment of $4.5 billion in the project is expected to generate $1.9 billion in indirect impact (business-to-business spending) and $1.8 billion in induced impact (spending of wages), for a total impact of $8.2 billion on the greater Kansas City region during the construction period.
During the construction period, real estate development activities are projected to support 36,500 full-time equivalent job-years in the region, with $2.7 billion in employee compensation, and generate $106.4 million in tax revenue for the State of Kansas, according to a release.
In 2031, operations in Kansas will generate annual economic and fiscal benefits and will be supplemented by one million projected annual patrons for NFL games, concerts, and other special events.
The stadium and practice facility are projected to be complete by 2031. The team and stadium operational spending and visitor spending will generate $1.5 billion for the region. Additionally, the economic activity is expected to support 8,500 full-time equivalent jobs and $833.9 million in employee compensation annually on both sides of the state line, while generating $67.0 million in annual tax revenue for the State of Kansas.
