The University of Missouri-Columbia announced Kansas City-based architecture firm DLR Group joined the Memorial Stadium improvement project, University of Missouri Athletic Department announced Friday.

The partnership between the institution and DLR Group was announced during a board meeting where members voted to approve the decision. DLR Group must conduct a pre-design study to develop programming plans for Memorial Stadium for a fee not to exceed $400,000, according to a release.

The goal of the Memorial Stadium Improvements project is to create an open-air mixed-use development along the stadium’s North Concourse area with the potential to produce modernized year-round revenue opportunities.

Amenities for the redesigned stadium include open-air observation decks, modernized food and beverage concessions, new restrooms, a new stadium gateway and gate system, improved, retail outlets, a new football team recruiting room and an enhanced videoboard.

A final cost estimate has not yet been calculated due to unfinished programming plans, but the university has said that the stadium renovations are being partially funded through private donations.

The project is expected to be completed by mid-August 2026.

DLR Group was chosen for this project based on its history with the Los Angeles Memorial Stadium, the University of Houston’s TDECU Football Stadium and the University of Louisiana’s Cajun Field.
