Kansas boosts funding to retain front-line healthcare workers

December 2021

Hospital systems and the state of Kansas are pouring money into helping hospitals keep front-line workers. Funding is provided through a $50 million hospital worker retention program which allocates the money to healthcare systems across the state.

Funding from the state of Kansas – in cooperation with hospital systems in the state – is increasing funding to Kansas health systems to help hospitals retain front-line workers experiencing burnout during COVID-19.

Kansas has instituted $50 million through the SPARK frontline hospital worker retention program (Strengthening People and Revitalizing Kansas).

Each health system applies and is allocated a portion of the $50 million to give to front-line health workers.

Kansas City metro-based Advent Health Shawnee Mission received more than $2.5 Million from SPARK funding, which it used to increase hourly wages beginning after Thanksgiving.
