A new fire station is being built in De Soto, just north of the Panasonic electric vehicle battery manufacturing plant, as part of a $15 million support infrastructure improvement plan and will be the first project in the area.

The fire station will be located at the northeast corner of 102nd Street and Lexington Avenue. Floor plans for the building show it will be 20,170 square feet and feature 40 parking spaces, 10 bunks and three fire truck bays with another bay planned for a future phase in the development.

The building will be constructed in two phases. Pavement areas for vehicle movements have been adjusted for the proposed future expansion.

The development is part of a $15 million Johnson County infrastructure investment agreement plan.

The plan allocated the funds to support infrastructure improvement throughout De Soto. Under the terms of the agreement, the property owner Sunflower Redevelopment Group donated the 9-acre site to Johnson County’s Northwest Consolidated Fire District.

SFS Architecture is the architect, BHC is the civil engineer and landscape architect, Bob D. Campbell & Co. is the structural engineer and FSC MEP Engineers will be the mechanical, electrical and plumbing contractors for the project.
