Hy-Vee Is Having Issues

Grocer Hy-Vee might be based in Des Moines, Iowa, but it has a major presence in the Kansas City area, with 24 locations from Manhattan, Kan., to the KC metro. And there is also the Hy-Vee arena, in the West Bottoms neighborhood, which was recently renovated from its former long-time life as Kemper Arena.

Last September, Hy-Vee management said it had made a $90-million investment in the area, with a new fulfillment center, as well as renovations to several area stores. Now, the warehouse is scheduled to close in May, impacting close to 600 employees. It is one of four being shut in the Midwest.

Meanwhile, Hy-Vee has spend much of its store-renovation money on its Market Grille full-service restaurant concept, and now that is reportedly being scrapped, and they will be replaced by Wahlburgers locations, which was started in 2014 by celebrity acting brother Marc and Donnie Wahlberg.

There is currently one stand-alone Wahlburgers in Olathe.
