Nearly 11 months after it was acquired by J.M. Smucker, Hostess Brands will lay off 79 employees at its Lenexa headquarters.
A WARN notice from July 29 states the company will lay off 79 people from the Lenexa facility located at 7905 Quivira Rd.
The layoffs are a result of the J. M. Smucker’s acquisition of Hostess Brands in September 2023, a spokesperson told ModernRetail citing “updates to our organizational structure.” The approximate $5.6 billion acquisition absorbed over 3,000 Hostess workers
The transaction of the acquisition was completed in November adding snack brands such as Donettes, Twinkies, CupCakes, DingDongs, Zingers, CoffeeCakes, HoHos, Mini Muffins and Fruit Pies to J. M. Smucker’s portfolio.
In a June 2024 earnings call, Tucker Marshall, J. M. Smucker’s chief financial officer, said the company expected Hostess Brands to contribute $1.4 billion, to J. M. Smucker’s fiscal 2025 year, according to ModerRetail.
