Helix Architecture + Design Announces Merger With RATIO Design

Kansas City-based architectural design firm Helix Architecture + Design has officially merged with RATIO Design, a firm based in Indianapolis.

The combined firm will operate as RATIO | Helix in Kansas City, while existing studios will continue operating under the RATIO name. The Kansas City team will continue serving clients with the same leadership and staff, according to a release. The merger was supported by investment firm Hennick & Company, which made a strategic investment in RATIO Design in 2021. 

Erika Moody, principal and president at Helix, will continue in her role and become vice president and a member of RATIO’s executive leadership team.

“We know their work, and over time, came to see how seamlessly our firms could work together, grow thoughtfully, and increase opportunities for our teams. We share a similar commitment to design, collaboration, and community impact,” Moody said in the release.

Helix’s senior leadership team includes Doug Stockman as principal and director of architecture design across the region and Alissa Wehmueller, who will continue as principal and director of interior design at the studio.

“Helix’s work has a big impact on people and communities,” Bill Browne, principal and CEO of RATIO Design, said in the release. “Together, we see opportunities to create purposeful work across Missouri and Kansas while expanding into nearby regional markets that naturally align with our studios and our clients.”

RATIO has a portfolio of projects across several practices, including higher education and sporting venues. The Indianapolis firm is responsible for the Payne Indoor Athletic Facility at the University of Georgia, the Smead Aerospace Engineering Sciences Building at the University of Colorado Boulder and the Academic Technology Commons at Saint Louis University. It has also worked on venue projects such as Riverview Health Arena at Innovation Mile in Indiana, which opened in August 2025 and the James T. Morris Arena at Indiana University, which is on track to open in late 2026.

Founded in 1982, RATIO has completed work in more than 41 states in the US and 15 countries and territories around the world.
