Fans welcomed back at Children’s Mercy Park on Tuesday

Strict closures have begun to ease in some sectors of the Kansas City region, Sporting Kansas City bringing back a spark of life to the metro by allowing some fans to attend yesterday’s game.

For the first time in five months, Sports Kansas City hosted it first match at home with fans.

The sports team is only one of four clubs in Major League Soccer to host fans in their home venues under the league’s restart this season.

Despite limited capacity at Tuesday’s game, fans showed up, eager to make a return to the stadium and watch in the game in real-time.

The decision to open Children’s Mercy Park to fans has brought back a small spark of life to the long-quiet region.

Although far fewer fans were allowed entry than normal along with firm procedures put in place for fans such as a temperature check at the gate, those who did attend were happy to be back.

“If we can watch the game, we’ll do what we can to be able to get in,” Sarah Laundy, an attending fan at Tuesday’s game, said to Fox 4 News.

Laundy was joined by her husband Phil, who said despite the rules and procedures, it was worth it. “As soon as we hit the gate, I’ll mask up. I don’t like it, but it’s worth it,” he said.
