EHR platform provides free telehealth to rural residents

By Madison Parry

A new trial program through Cerner-based EHR platform CommunityWorks will help rural hospitals and residents as in-person appointments have become more difficult due to COVID-19. Through the platform, rural clients can receive free telehealth through the end of 2021.

Rural hospitals and residents are facing a problem few people living in urban and suburban areas experience: ready access to healthcare.

While COVID-19 has made travel and in-person appointments more difficult, emerging tech-based solutions and a growing popularity in telehealth have provided opportunities for healthcare providers and their patients.

For clients of the EHR platform CommunityWorks, rural patients can participate in the trial of a new video visit platform for free through Dec. 31, 2021.

Developed by Kansas City-based EHR vendor Cerner, the trial provides telehealth visits between rural residents and their providers at no cost.

The video visit platform integrates directly with the CommunityWorks EHR, a cloud-based system focused on the rural and community hospital market.

CommunityWorks’ free telehealth visits are only being made available to Cerner clients as part of the year-long trial run.
