Downtown Council reveals vision, plans for future of KC

Local nonprofit Downtown Council of Kansas City, Missouri has revealed plans for what it envisions the downtown area to be by 2030. The effort began in March 2020 and involves the collaboration of numerous business, civic and governmental leaders.

To drive the mission, the question posed to collaborators was, “Could there be a more inspiring way to contemplate tomorrow?” Over the last 22 months, different groups – led by Downtown Council of Kansas City, Missouri – worked together to find an answer.

Co-leading the effort was national consulting group MIG. The strategic planning process to imagine the possibilities for Downtown began at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, with the recruitment of long-time stakeholders along with emerging voices from 22 neighborhoods and districts of greater Downtown. Both large and small groups gathered in dozens of virtual meetings to discuss strengths, weaknesses, threats, and opportunities facing greater Downtown.

The results of their labor were revealed on Tuesday in the form of the Imagine Downtown KC 2030 Strategic Plan.
