CVS Chooses Kansas City as Midwest Distribution Center

Kansas City’s growing reputation as a vital distribution hub at the center of the United States received further burnishing today, when The Kansas City Area Development Council (KCADC) announced that CVS Pharmacy, America’s leading retail pharmacy, will build a 762,000-sq.-ft. distribution center at KC’s Skyport Industrial Park.

The 71-acre facility, is expected to break ground at 108th Street and North Congress near Kansas City International Airport and Interstate 29, in January 2017, with construction starting immediately.

The center is expected to create 360-plus new jobs and up to 100 additional jobs that will be outsourced to local businesses. Operations are expected to begin in 2018, with the new facility supporting the service and fulfillment needs of more than 370 CVS Pharmacy stores throughout the Midwest.

“The key combination of a high-quality workforce and a centralized location will support the growing needs of our customers throughout the Midwest and beyond,” said Kevin Hourican, a top CVS supply chain executive. “Our delivery drivers will drive hundreds of thousands fewer miles each year to deliver product to our stores, significantly reducing carbon emissions and improving highway safety.”

“Kansas City continues to be recognized as a signature location for regional and national distribution,” said Kansas City Area Development Council President and CEO Tim Cowden. “We are thrilled that CVS Pharmacy has chosen the KC region for its new Midwest distribution center and look forward to its success.”

KCADC also acknowledged the contributions of its partners in attracting CVS Pharmacy to the KC region: State of Missouri, The Missouri Partnership, Economic Development Corporation of Kansas City, Platte County Economic Development Council, KCP&L, Cushman & Wakefield, NorthPoint Development, Metropolitan Community College, Focus Workforces, IMKO Workforce Solutions, QPS Employment Group, Full Employment Council, Missouri Division of Workforce Development, UPS, Scarbrough International, Ltd., Port KC and KC SmartPort.
