Members from the Missouri Department of Economic Development, Missouri Governor Mike Parson and leaders of the logistics company Americold gathered Tuesday to break ground on the $127 million facility.
In February, Americold announced a strategic collaboration with Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC). Americold is investing $127 million in a new 335,000-square-foot facility, connecting the U.S. and Mexico markets. When the facility is established, it will bring 187 new jobs to the area.
“It’s the infrastructure we’re building that is why these companies are coming here,” Parson said. “It’s because of the things we are doing to prepare the next generation to be the workforce of tomorrow and it takes the cities the counties and the state, all the entities involved to make this day count.”
Americold’s facility will also support CPKC’s Mexico Midwest Express (MMX) service, North America’s only single-line rail service offering for refrigerated shippers between U.S. Midwest markets and Mexico.
“We will create a logistics hub that generates value and new supply chain opportunities while putting more freight on trains,” president and CEO of CPKC, Keith Creel said.
“By partnering with CPKC and utilizing their rail network we are enabling out customers across North America to store and transport goods much more efficiently and effectively than ever before,” CEO of Americold, George Chappelle said. “The facility in Kansas City is an exciting start to this partnership. We look forward to further collaboration with CPKC to provide world-class service to more customers and strengthen the food supply chain.”
