Coping with Covid: Kansas opens PPE stockpile to businesses

Businesses owned or operated in Kansas now have access to the state’s personal protective equipment (PPE) warehouse supply, eligible businesses now able to make requests through the end of the year for supplies which will be shipped at no cost.

In Kansas, the largest personal protective equipment (PPE) stockpile kept in a Topeka warehouse is now open to more than just counties.

Recently, the state opened access to supplies to eligible businesses owned or operated in Kansas as the region continues to work around challenges related to COVID-19.

Staffed by Kansas National Guardsmen, dozens up shipments are sent out from the warehouse each day for PPE supplies ranging from face shields, to gowns, to disinfectant and more.

“We’re supporting county emergency management across the state,” Byan Murdie with the Kansas Division of Emergency Management said. “The governor’s priorities within the state are to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and also ensure that we support economic recovery. So, it’s important for us to get PPE to small businesses so that they can operate safely.”

Approved businesses are delivered supply requests at no cost through the end of the year, though must meet a few requirements which include having operations in the state, be in good standing with the Kansas Department of Revenue, have proof of ordered PPE on back-order or delayed delivery, and have a maximum of 500 employees.
