Coping with Covid: COVID-19 cluster information from KDHE remains undisclosed

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment has halted the release of detailed reports revealing COVID-19 clusters in the state, the department saying it received positive and negative reviews and that it hopes to assess feedback before resuming next week.

A Wednesday statement from the Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) has confirmed they are putting a pause on the release of COVID-19 cluster information.

Last week, the department began releasing detailed cluster information for the state which included the county, city, facility and number of cases in each cluster.

While less-thorough data had been shared before, the recent start of a detailed information release to the public was part of a plan to promote transparency and “empower” Kansans to make informed decisions about their own risk, according to KDHE Secretary Dr. Lee Norman.

“Our goal is to focus and report the most current disease activity,” Norman said on Wednesday. “We know people appreciate the transparency. It allows Kansans to make informed decisions in assessing personal risk.”

In Wednesday’s statement, the department it received positive and negative reviews that it plans to assess before resuming the release of cluster information next week on Wednesday, Sept. 23.
