Coping with COVID: Chicago adds Kansas to quarantine list and New York, New Jersey add Missouri

Kansas and Missouri were both added to COVID-19 quarantine lists in other regions of the country where travelers are being asked to self-quarantine for two weeks.

On Tuesday, the city of Chicago added Kansas to its quarantine list. The same day, New York and New Jersey state added Missouri to their list of travelers being asked to quarantine upon arrival.

A COVID-19 quarantine list, a method now adopted by several states and cities in the U.S., requires that travelers from specific states or regions self-quarantine for 14 days – or two weeks – when arriving at their destination in the hopes that they do not risk bringing and spreading COVID-19.

Beginning Friday, anyone arriving in Chicago from Kansas will be asked to quarantine for 14 days upon arrival. The city said this includes both residents and people visiting the city, reports KMBC 9 News.

Officials with the city of Chicago said anyone found to violate the order could be fined $100 to $500 a day, up to $7,000 total, although officials admit they won’t be able to keep track of who is and isn’t following the imposed rule.

New York and New Jersey added 10 states total to the list, including Missouri. Kansas made the same lists back in early July.

While some regions may be more lax on fines, New York is not one, as officials have said they can levy a $2,000 fine against travelers who leave airports in the state without submitting a form that says where the travelers are arriving from and where they’re going.
